About us and these terms
Everything is Something ("we", "us", "our") is a sole trader operating in Victoria, Australia. These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of Pip and any other products or services we operate (collectively, the Services).
By accessing or using the Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
Access and eligibility
You must be at least 16 years of age to use the Services. By using the Services, you represent that you meet this requirement.
Mature content: Pip recommends content across all classifications and ratings, including content rated for mature or adult audiences (such as R18+ film and television). We do not currently filter recommendations based on your age. You are responsible for assessing whether any recommended content is appropriate for you or, if you are using the Services on behalf of a minor in your care, for them. If you are under 18, we recommend using the Services with parental awareness.
If you create an account, you agree to:
- Provide accurate, current and complete information
- Keep your account credentials secure and confidential
- Notify us promptly of any unauthorised access to your account
- Take responsibility for all activity that occurs under your account
Accounts are personal and non-transferable.
Subscription plans and billing
The Services are offered under two tiers:
Pip (Free): Access to core taste profiling and recommendation features at no charge.
Pip+ (Paid): Enhanced features available via subscription at the following rates:
- Monthly: USD $3.99 per month
- Annual: USD $34.99 per year
Pricing may vary by region based on local currency and applicable taxes. The price displayed at the time of purchase is the price you will be charged.
Billing through app stores: Pip+ subscriptions purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play are billed directly by Apple or Google. Subscription status, purchase receipts, and entitlement data are managed via RevenueCat, a third-party subscription management platform, which receives transaction data from the app stores on our behalf. Your cancellation and refund rights remain subject to the terms of the relevant app store platform. Neither we nor RevenueCat process or store your payment card details.
Cancellation: You may cancel your Pip+ subscription at any time through the App Store or Google Play account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; we do not offer refunds for partial periods unless required by applicable law.
Changes to pricing: We reserve the right to change subscription pricing. We will provide reasonable notice before any price change takes effect, and your continued use of Pip+ after that date constitutes acceptance of the new pricing.
Licence to use the Services
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the Services for personal, non-commercial purposes.
Pip+ subscribers receive access to additional features for the duration of their active subscription. This licence is personal and terminates when your subscription ends or your account is closed.
We reserve all rights not expressly granted in these Terms.
Your content
Some parts of the Services allow you to submit information such as taste preferences, ratings, profile data, biographical information, social links, and curated lists (Your Content). You retain ownership of Your Content, but by submitting it you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use, store, process and display Your Content solely as necessary to provide and improve the Services.
You represent and warrant that:
- You have the right to submit Your Content
- Your Content does not infringe the rights of any third party
- Your Content does not contain personal information about others without their consent
- Your Content complies with all applicable laws
Imported data: If you import data from third-party platforms (such as Letterboxd or Goodreads export files), you represent that you are the account holder for that data and that importing and using it within the Services does not violate the terms of those platforms. We are not responsible for any inaccuracies or third-party rights issues arising from imported data.
AI-generated content
The Services use artificial intelligence to generate personalised recommendations and commentary (collectively, Outputs). Recommendations are produced by combining algorithmic matching (using taste embeddings stored in our database) with AI re-ranking via the Anthropic Claude API. Both layers use your taste profile data to generate results.
You acknowledge and agree that:
- Outputs are generated based on your inputs and are provided for entertainment and discovery purposes only
- Outputs may not be accurate, complete or suitable for any particular purpose
- Outputs do not constitute professional advice of any kind
- Similar or identical Outputs may be generated for other users
- We make no guarantees regarding the accuracy, originality or fitness of any Output
- You use Outputs at your own risk
Combined recommendations (Pip+ feature): When you use the combined recommendations feature with another user, both users' taste profile data is processed together to generate shared results. By initiating or participating in a combined recommendation session, you consent to your taste profile being used in this way. Combined recommendations require at least one participating user to hold an active Pip+ subscription; the other user benefits without needing a paid subscription.
Third-party services and content
The Services integrate with third-party providers including AI, analytics, hosting, and app distribution platforms. Your use of any third-party service is subject to that provider's own terms and privacy practices. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy or conduct of any third-party service.
Film, television, book, and music metadata used within the Services is sourced from licensed third-party data providers. This content remains the property of its respective rights holders.
Public profiles and social features
Public profiles: Your profile is private by default. No other user can see your taste profile, taste code, or logged items unless you explicitly enable public visibility in your account settings. When you turn your profile on, you consent to other users being able to view your taste code, taste profile, and recently logged items. You can turn your profile back to private at any time via your account settings, at which point your information will no longer be visible to others.
Following: You may follow other users to receive their activity in your feed. Other users may follow you. You can block followers or make your profile private at any time via your account settings.
Taste compatibility: When you view another user's public profile, the Services may display a compatibility score derived from comparing both users' taste embeddings. This comparison uses aggregated taste data, not raw logs.
Shared feed (Pip+): Pip+ subscribers have access to a feed of activity from users they follow and taste-matched curators. This feed uses algorithmic signals derived from the taste profiles of followed users. By following someone, you consent to their public activity being used to personalise your feed.
Curator and distributor profiles
Curator profiles: Curator status is granted by invitation or approved application. Curators may display extended biographical information, social links, embedded content from third-party platforms, and curated lists within the Services. By submitting content for a curator profile, you represent that you have the right to share and embed that content and that it does not infringe any third-party rights.
Distributor profiles: Some distributor profiles in the Services are pre-populated using publicly available catalog data sourced from third-party databases. These profiles exist independently of any claim or affiliation by the distributor. Distributors may apply to claim and manage their profile. Unclaimed profiles will display a notice indicating they were created from public catalog data. We make no representation that distributor profiles are endorsed by or affiliated with the relevant distributor until a claim is formally confirmed by us.
Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Services to:
- Violate any applicable law or regulation
- Infringe the intellectual property rights of any person
- Upload or transmit viruses, malware or any code designed to disrupt or damage systems
- Scrape, crawl or extract data from the Services using automated means without our written consent
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Services or related infrastructure
- Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity
- Harass, threaten or harm any other person
- Use the Services to build a competing product or service
- Circumvent any technical measures we use to protect the Services or enforce subscription access
- Use the Services for any fraudulent or deceptive purpose
We reserve the right to take action — including suspension or termination of access — where we reasonably believe a breach of this section has occurred, including conduct that, while not explicitly listed, is inconsistent with the spirit of these restrictions.
Intellectual property
All rights, title and interest in and to the Services — including their design, code, content, trademarks, and other materials — are owned by or licensed to Everything is Something. Nothing in these Terms grants you any rights in the Services beyond the limited licence described above.
The name Pip, the Everything is Something name, and associated branding and visual identity are proprietary to us. Nothing in these Terms grants you any right to use them, and we ask that you do not use them in any way that implies endorsement or affiliation without our prior written consent.
Feedback
If you provide feedback, suggestions or ideas about the Services, you agree that we may use that feedback for any purpose without compensation or attribution. Feedback does not give you any ownership interest in the Services.
Availability and changes
We make no guarantees about the availability, reliability or continuity of the Services. We may modify, suspend or discontinue any part of the Services — including features available to specific subscription tiers — at any time. Except as required by applicable law, we will not be liable for any loss arising from such changes. If we discontinue a paid feature that is material to your Pip+ subscription, we will provide reasonable notice and a prorated remedy where applicable.
Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Services at any time for any reason, including breach of these Terms. Termination of a paid subscription by us without cause will result in a prorated refund of any prepaid fees. You may stop using the Services at any time. Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination will do so, including sections on intellectual property, disclaimer of warranties, limitation of liability, and governing law.
Disclaimer of warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Services are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components, or that any content or Output will be accurate or reliable.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Everything is Something will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages arising out of or in connection with your use of the Services, including loss of data, loss of revenue, or loss of goodwill.
Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the Services will not exceed the greater of: (a) the total fees paid by you to us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or (b) USD $10.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including the consumer guarantees under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth) or equivalent consumer protection legislation in your jurisdiction.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Everything is Something from and against any claims, losses, costs (including reasonable legal costs) and damages arising out of or related to: (a) your use of the Services; (b) Your Content; or (c) your breach of these Terms.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, without regard to conflict of laws principles. You agree to submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria for any disputes arising under these Terms.
If you are a consumer located in a jurisdiction with mandatory local consumer protection laws, those laws may apply in addition to or instead of the above, and nothing in this clause is intended to deprive you of any protections you cannot waive under your local law.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated version with a revised "Last revised" date. Your continued use of the Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree with a change, you should stop using the Services before the effective date.
Miscellaneous
- Entire agreement. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Everything is Something regarding the Services.
- Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force.
- Waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms is not a waiver of our right to enforce it in the future.
- Assignment. You may not assign your rights under these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign our rights without restriction.
- No partnership. Nothing in these Terms creates a partnership, employment, agency or joint venture relationship between you and Everything is Something.
- Language. These Terms are written in English. In the event of any conflict between a translated version and the English version, the English version prevails.
